► (1872-1922) Político irlandés. En 1921 firmó el Tratado de Londres por el que el Ulster formaba parte del Reino Unido, e Irlanda del Sur quedaba dentro de la Commonwealth.

Periodista y nacionalista irlandés, principal fundador del Sinn Féin. En su juventud fue editor de periódicos políticos y llamó a la resistencia pasiva contra el dominio británico. Perdió influencia entre los nacionalistas radicalizados cuando se abstuvo de participar en el levantamiento de Pascua (1916), pero la recobró cuando los británicos lo encarcelaron con otros miembros del Sinn Féin. En 1918 los miembros irlandeses de la Cámara de los Comunes declararon la república y eligieron a Eamon de Valera presidente y a Griffith vicepresidente. En 1921 encabezó la delegación irlandesa a la conferencia para debatir la autonomía y fue el primer delegado irlandés en aceptar la partición establecida en el tratado angloirlandés (1921).Cuando el Dáil lo aprobó por estrecho margen en 1922, De Valera renunció y fue elegido presidente. Agotado por el exceso de trabajo, murió poco después.
